While using a four-stroke engine in a snowmobile isn’t new, Arctic Cat can be credited for starting the modern day 4-stroke revolution. This has been out of need more than want, but the shift is changing. While the original “Yellowstone Special” turned “4-Stroke” turned “T660” is a great accomplishment, it leaves a little to be desired. Sure, it works great and is perfect for the putt-putt cruise or a person who is not accustomed to more power, but the original 660 really needed a boost. It got it with the addition of a turbocharger.

The original Yellowstone Special has evolved into a complete series including the classy T660 Turbo Touring.

Target Market:

This model appeals to the experienced rider who tours the trails on a weekend saddlebag trip or wants the luxury of a deluxe touring sled for solo or two-up riding. The buyer is looking for comfort, low maintenance, easy operation and more power with a quiet, relaxing ride. The T660 Turbo Touring offers all of this in either black or silver with a royal blue trim.

Tech Highlights:

The heart of the sled is a Suzuki three-cylinder 660cc liquid four-stroke fuel-injected engine that came out of the automotive division. However, unlike the other high-profile four-stroke sled, this one was not built around the engine. Instead, the engine is fitted to the chassis. A turbocharger is added and produces 110 ponies. If you haven’t driven a T660 Turbo, you owe it to yourself to try one. It’s surprisingly relaxing and exhilarating at the same time.

It is a luxury class sled with its plush seats, electric start, large windshield, rear view mirrors, reverse, passenger hand warmers and adjustable backrest. Cat doesn’t stop there. While the Turbo Touring is a luxury model, it still gets new technology like their digital/analog gauge and ACT drive system. To keep the ride even quieter, Arctic added the Quiet Track to the Touring.

Want more? Ok, how about some luxury options like remote electric start? This is a way cool feature that more sleds should offer. Another neat option Arctic Cat offers on the T660 TT is a built-in FRS radio communication system. It uses the standard FRS 2-mile range frequencies so you can talk to your significant other or your friends along the trail. And if you spring for the LE edition, you also get heated driver and passenger seats. Can you say “Cadillac of sleds”?

What we have to say:

Test rider Steve Franta

What I like about this sled:

“It purrs like a kitten. It is so quiet in operation and it handles quiet well for its size, too. I also like the communication and satellite radio system.”

What I disliked about this sled:

“I didn’t like the turbo lag from the engine.”

Would I recommend this sled?

“I would recommend this to an older-generation cruiser fan.”

Test rider Wade West

What I like about this sled:

“I liked the four stroke engine package on this sled. The turbo charger gives it enough power to cruise solo or in tandem, plus it delivers solid cool factor. The LE’s electronics offerings are also worth the upgrade.”

What I disliked about this sled:

“I think the ride positioning feels old and tired.”

Would I recommend this sled?

“I think this is a worthy option in the two-up touring segment. It’s not my favorite one, but I know there is still a large following for the lower, more traditional seating position. This is a good choice for those folks.”

Test rider Shane Zeppelin

What I like about this sled:

Personally, I like the relaxing ride and once you get used to the turbo lag, it’s not a bad performing sled. The single coolest feature for a gadget guru like me is the FRS radio. Now just add FM, MP3, a GPS and a cup holder and you’ve got a luxury liner that would be hard to beat.

What I disliked about this sled:

I feel the seating position is a bit low for my tastes. While this is a luxury sled, the seat could still be higher. Overall, there is not much to complain about on this model.

Would I recommend this sled?

Yes, highly. If you’re looking for a luxury sled with class and a lot of available options, this is one you should take a serious look at.

Conclusion:

Arctic Cat has a good handle on luxury touring. The T660 Turbo Touring is the “cat’s meow” when it comes to luxury trail pounding. It has a lot to offer in its standard form and a lot more with exclusive options, which makes this sled a class act.
